Closed part of the Forchtenstein Castle (Burgenland, Austria)

The first part of the castle  was built in the beginning of the 15th century by the Lords of Mattersburg, who later named themselves Lords of Forchtenstein.

When we came there the most interesting part for us was armorу room. We will prepare for you a big article about medieval martial arts in this region, but for now, we want to share with you something special.

It houses the former arsenal and armoury, the arsenal, with weapons and military equipment from the sixteenth century and the Thirty Years’ War – muskets, cuirasses, morion helmets, pikes, halberds and innumerable items from the local weapon production: raw wood for guns, case-shot, hand grenade containers and canon balls made of the most diverse materials.

The point is that we could manage to come into closed part of the Forchtenstein Castle!

This part of the castle is closed always. But we made since an administrator Thomas is our reader!

We made a few photos for you
